Account Settings Change

At the request of a frequent poster, I have changed the default community settings to disable anonymous comments.

Given the reported rate - three spam comments in two days - I don't see that we have much choice. At the same time, part of me wants to make it easy for a non-LJ person to join in the conversation, without forcing them get an LJ account. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Any other comments or suggestions on the change?

Personally, I think the world should be able to see everything. This is an acknowledged 'communications from Minicon' location - we should allow the world to see it. And there may be clarifications / additions / corrections in comments, so those should be world visible too.

Why shouldn't we be making everything world visible?

These posts are still visible and public to the world. When they're linked to the rest of the world, they're linked in venues that also accept comments.

If such information is potentially useful for preventing spamming, anyone who wants the email notification of the deleted posts is welcome to have them. Send me an email and I'll forward them to you.

Screened comments seems to be the answer -- they have to be approved by a moderator. Extra moderators if necessary, to make it happen fast enough (I'm available).

Or, three comments in two days seems to me to be a trivial rate and it seems weird to consider this an emergency that needs a solution. We see them, we delete them. (Maybe...more moderator, to help keep more current on that?)

It isn't an emergency.

It is irritating to leave an open forum for spammers to utilize.
